Books and Cosmetics

One of the world’s largest sellers of cosmetics started out as a book dealer. David McConnell, a door-to-door book salesman, founded the California Perfume Company in 1886 when he realized that people were buying his books in order to get the rose oil perfumes he was giving away. The company changed its name to Avon in 1939.
